  • Why is information about students collected in the application?
We ask for student information for several reasons. Contact information (phone, address, email) is for program communication and updates, and to be able to reach a family member in the case of emergency. Other demographic information such as age, gender, race, and household income level is collected to provide Wide Angle with an overview of the students impacted by our programs. This helps to make sure that we are meeting our goals to engage youth from historically under-resourced communities in Baltimore. We recognize that these are personal questions, and students and families may opt out of providing this information if they choose. Wide Angle receives funding from a large list of supporters, including through some grants that require demographic information (also to ensure that funds are serving the intended communities). When this information is reported to these funders, it is always combined by the overall program, and individual students are never identified.
